(Reuters Health) – Rental youth start school after only 10 minutes each day can & # 39; help them get more than 20 minutes extra sleep on a typical night, a Canadian study suggests.
While this can & # 39; not sound like much, for some adolescents deprived of sleep it can & # 39; be enough & # 39; difference to help them get the minimum recommended eight hours of & # 39; shuteye at night, the researchers note in Sleep Medicine.
"The circadian clock of our body naturally replaced later in puberty, so that adolescents get off more tired late at night (because of the latest release of melatonin) and therefore need to sleep more in the morning to get enough rest. The Canadian guidelines recommend at least 9 hours of & # 39; sleep each night for children & # 39; between 5 and 13 years and at least 8 hours for teens & # 39; between 14 and 17. For the study, researchers examined data on teens in grades nine & # 39; by 2017.
Under the Canadian guidelines, children 5 to 13 should get at least nine & # 39; & # 39 hours; sleep at night and teens & # 39; ages 14 and 17 should get at least eight hours. Every year, the researchers surveyed schools about the times of the beginning and how much sleep, time & # 39; screen and got exercise.
In the beginning, the students reported sleeping an average of & # 39; seven & # 39; Typical hours daily, & # 39; average & # 39; & # 39 8.2 hours; Total time & # 39; screen and about 2 hours & # 39; moderate to severe physical activity.
Hours starting school ranged from 8:00 a.m. until 9:35 a.m.
