Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares announced on Tuesday that his country had evacuated his collaborators in Afghanistan, with the support of Qatar.
Albares added, in an interview with the Spanish news agency “EFE”, that today he had a “very positive” meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha.
He also praised Qatar’s support for his country in the evacuation of his collaborators in Afghanistan “in full and short-term security”.
The Spanish minister stressed that they will honor their commitment not to abandon any collaborators in Afghanistan.
From another perspective, José Manuel Albares said that Madrid will not recognize the Taliban government and establish political relations with it, and will only communicate with it to facilitate the evacuation processes from Afghanistan.
Last August, the Taliban seized power in almost all of Afghanistan, including the capital Kabul, along with the last phase of the U.S. military withdrawal, which ended in 31 of the same month.
