(Agence Ecofin) – The Nigerian Prime Minister Brig Rafini and Energy Minister Amina Moumouni inaugurated the first solar power station of the country. This information was provided by Nigelec, the national electric company.

B & # 39; & # 39 capacity; 7 MW, the infrastructure has been established near the location of & # 39; Malbaza, a village in the center of the country. Its implementation would cost $ 24.7 million and its production will provide about 30 000 households in the departments of & # 39; Madaoua, Malbaza and cones.

The building Malbaza solar plant is part of a project involving the installation of 2021 solar power plants with & # 39; & # 39 overall capacity, 100 MW.

The other plants that will be built are Dosso (10 MW), ill (20 MW), Niamey, Gorou Banda (30 MW) and another plant in & # 39; Malbaza, b & # 39; capacity & # 39; 13 MW. The project also includes solar thermal and hybrid plant & # 39; 22 MW being developed, under the supervision of the Agence Française de Développement.

As a reminder, only 15% of Nigerian 20 million have access to electricity. The country has an installed capacity of & # 39; 140 MW and imports more than half of the energy consumed in its territory of Nigeria.
