GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas fans are using Steam reviews to encourage people to buy the originals before Rockstar removes them next week.

This week Rockstar announced the worst kept secret in games: remasters of Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas.

In doing so, Rockstar has confirmed its plan to remove the originals from all digital retailers on PC and consoles from next week, replacing them with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – L -Definitive edition on several showcases.

The decision to remove these classics is a blow to the preservation of video games and obviously bad for the player’s choice, but it seems unlikely that Rockstar will get started on this – not soon, anyway.

Let’s Play Grand Theft Auto 3 – Late To The Party.

And then, fans went to Steam reviews to suggest people buy the originals now before they lose their chance – potentially forever.

“Make sure your ass owns the trilogy before it is cut from steam,” wrote Pink Diamond in one GTA 3 steam review.

“Buy this before it is removed next week,” GrunkleBran said in a Steam City review of Vice City.

“Buy it before it’s removed,” a user park said in a San Andreas Steam review.

Fans who already have the games are also using the steam reviews to praise the farewell. One in particular stood out to me, from a Steam user with an incredible 2780 record hours with San Andreas:

“I have to say with all the time I put into this game speedrunning, modding and what this is the best I will ever have to play a GTA game, this game means a lot to me with a great story, a good world and tons of things to do and find. “

“Okay, old friend,” the Steam Dime user wrote in a GTA 3 review. “Rockstar will remove you from Steam so the Definitive Edition can make money for them. Thanks for the memories … “

GTA 3 is 20 years old, Vice City is 19 years old, and San Andreas is 17 years old. The versions of the games available for download now on Steam, the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Marketplace are not the true originals. The San Andreas version available for purchase on the Xbox download store, for example, is the Xbox 360 version that can be played on Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S via backward compatibility. The version of Vice City available for download on the PlayStation Store is the version of the PlayStation 2 converted to work on the PlayStation 4. To get the true original experience, you need a PS2 and a physical copy of each game, and nothing Rockstar does after a week can prevent people from going down the eBay route.

In Rockstar’s announcement, she said Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Rockstar Games Launcher. He didn’t specifically mention Steam, suggesting that the originals be removed from Valve’s platform and replaced for free.

Rockstar’s warning said that earlier versions and packages containing these games will be removed from digital retailers from the week of October 11th. We don’t know the exact date when they will be removed, but if you’re interested in owning them, today is your last day to buy them digitally.

Of course, anyone who has purchased any of the previous versions will still be able to download them and play them on their respective purchase platforms after they are removed.
